Making Things Happen

Study Skills Programmes for Students and Schools

Study Skills Experience

OVERVIEW & AIMS

You want your students to be smart learners. You want them to have a ‘growth mindset’, with high aspirations and a motivation to succeed.

The Bright Futures Study Skills programme aims to guide your students on an exciting voyage of discovery about themselves and how they learn. It is suitable for students from Year 7. It is particularly good as preparation for mocks, GCSEs, AS and A2 exams. As a modular programme, it can be delivered in stages throughout their school career.

Your students will receive our comprehensive study skills booklet, which includes a range of activities to suit all learning styles. They will keep the booklets for future reference and you can plan to use them as mentoring aids. Each student will be invited to make some personal commitments during the programme, which tutors/teachers can follow up afterwards.

IN THIS PROGRAMME, YOUR STUDENTS WILL:

  • Discover the secret of true motivation
  • Learn the skills they need to succeed, by establishing good study techniques and learning habits. At your discretion, these can include
    1. Prioritising and time management
    2. Attention to detail and ‘focus’
    3. Mind mapping
    4. Memory techniques
    5. Study groups and how to use them
    6. Goal-setting, action planning and getting organised
    7. Personal commitment plan
    8. Revision techniques
    9. Independent learning
    10. Forming positive habits
    11. Preferred learning styles and how to use them effectively

ADDITIONALLY, YOUR STUDENTS WILL:

  • Be armed with the knowledge and understanding needed to turn their revision and learning into a much more meaningful and even fun process. Our message is that successful learning at school leads to success in life!
  • Work in non-friendship teams, anticipating what working life will be like
  • Enjoy dynamic, stimulating and fun challenges that develop PLT skills
  • Experience an inspirational, dynamic presentational style, accompanied by strong audiovisual introductions – it will be a highly memorable event
  • Take part in kinaesthetic activities, which encourage team working and communication, as well as problem-solving tasks that require lateral thinking and imaginative approaches
  • Be asked to evaluate the learning experience

Your school will receive a comprehensive evaluation of the learning experience, based on student and staff feedback. All activities will be mapped to PLTS, and the employment skills framework.
